Right now, our custom vessel is being built in Palmer, Alaska by Hylite Fabrication, a team of highly skilled Alaskan craftsmen known for producing exceptional landing crafts. We’re proud to have a locally made boat—and even more proud to design it specifically for the intimate, small-group sightseeing experience that sets Wild Fjord Tours apart.
The photo above and those below show a similar vessel we sea-trialed, but ours will include significant upgrades tailored to wildlife viewing, guest comfort, and smooth travel through the fjords. Every design choice—from deck layout to seating to visibility—has been made with your comfort, safety, and enjoyment in mind.
Comfort Features
This is not your typical 6-pack boat. Our 36′ 4″ custom vessel includes:
- A full-sized head (bathroom)
- A dedicated saloon table and booth for snacking and socializing
- Forced-air cabin heating to keep you warm on even the chilliest days
- Forward and aft full-view cabin doors and large panoramic windows for optimal viewing
- A hot coffee and snack bar to keep you energized throughout the trip
Safety Features
Fun fact (and a little surprising): the U.S. Coast Guard doesn’t require much safety equipment for boats carrying six or fewer passengers—basically just life jackets. Meanwhile, larger “inspected vessels” have to jump through tons of red tape, strict equipment requirements, and yearly inspections. Because we as captains have spent years running those inspected vessels—and because we have a deep respect for Alaska’s waters—we’re choosing to build our boat to the highest standard, even though we’re not required to.
It means more safety gear, more redundancy, and more peace of mind for you. When you book with Wild Fjord Tours, you’re stepping aboard a small-boat experience with big-vessel safety standards—the perfect combination for exploring the fjords with confidence. Our vessel will include:
- Two VHF radios for redundant communication
- Top-of-the-line radar for clear navigation in low visibility
- An auto-deploying EPIRB emergency beacon
- Upgraded safety equipment typically found only on larger passenger vessels
Our goal is simple: to operate the safest, most thoughtfully designed 6-pack vessel in Seward. We can’t wait to welcome you aboard!
